Richard Milhous Nixon was born on January 9, 1913 in
Yorba Linda, California. He died on April 22, 1994 at Park Ridge, New Jersey on
account of a stroke. He was 81 years old. Nixon had previously served as a US representative and senator from California. He was also the
36th Vice President of the United States from 1953 to 1960 under Dwight Eisenhower. He ran an unsuccessful presidential campaign in 1960, slightly losing to John F. Kennedy. After losing the campaign for governor of California, it seemed that Richard was saying leaving his public life after two straight losses. Instead, he traveled the nation giving speeches supporting republican
candidates. In 1968, Nixon ran for president and he was successful. African Americans were looking for new laws to guarantee their civil rights. People were protesting the Vietnam War. The streets were ridden with riots. Nixon promised to bring both sides of both problems together. It was clear what Nixon’s motive for the scandal was when he said, “I decided that we must begin immediately keeping track of everything the leading democrats did.Information would be our first line of defense.” Nixons advisors set up the CREEP, or the Committee to Re-elect the President, which was used to create a “slush” of money. The money would be used to fund Richard Nixon’s tricks on the democrats. One time, they ordered 300 dollars worth of pizza and left the democrats to pay the bill at a fundraiser. Others were worse.
